  14. 1. INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
  15.  
  16.    Before you update Sound Blaster drivers, you should ensure that you
  17.    have a workable system.  Software update will only update latest
  18.    drivers for you.
  19.  
  20.    To install Sound Blaster Updates, you require INSTALL.EXE,
  21.    INSTALL.PVL and any additional files that are card dependent.
  22.    (Refer to the table below)
  23.  
  24.    We recommend that you update Both DOS and Windows drivers.

  46.  2. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
  47.  
  48.     To update your Sound Blaster software, follow the steps below:
  49.  
  50.       a. Copy any of the files that you want to update (as shown in
  51.          section 1) onto a floppy disk or a directory in your hard
  52.          disk.
  53.  
  54.       b. Run the program INSTALL.EXE.
  55.  
  56.       c. The installation will detect the Audio card used and will not
  57.          extract that file if it is not meant for the Audio card.
  58.  
  59.       d. Follow the program's instructions to complete the installation.
  60.  
  61.  
  62. 3. INSTALL's OPERATION
  63.  
  64. INSTALL will perform the following tasks:
  65.  
  66.   a. Back-up all out-dated files from your Sound Blaster directory to
  67.      the BACKUP directory.
  68.  
  69.   b. Install updated programs to your Sound Blaster directory.
  70.  
  71.   c. Update the file OEMSETUP.INF if necessary.
  72.  
  73. If you choose to update the drivers in your Windows directory, the
  74. program will perform the following tasks:
  75.  
  76.   a. Remove all out-dated drivers from your Windows directory.
  77.  
  78.   b. Install updated drivers to your Windows directory.
  79.  
  80.   c. Verify that the file SYSTEM.INI contains the correct name of the
  81.      Sound Blaster driver.
  82.  
  83. At the end of the installation, a log file SBUPDATE.LOG will be
  84. created in your Sound Blaster directory.  You may use a text editor
  85. to view this file.  Alternatively, you may follow the steps below:
  86.  
  87.      a. Change to your Sound Blaster directory.
  88.  
  89.      b. Type "TYPE SBUPDATE.LOG" and press <Enter>.

  92. 4. UPDATED FILES
  93.  
  94.     Note - BACKUP directory refers to the directory \BACKUP in your
  95.             Sound Blaster directory which will be created by INSTALL.
  96.  
  97. For Sound Blaster 16 (Advanced Signal Processor) users

  303.   Note that this file should be copied to Windows directory.

  314. * Please note that there's no mixer control for Sound Blaster 2.0.  Hence,
  315.   the features available for controlling the volume will not be supported
  316.   for SBSIM.COM.

  319. * Please note that if Windows drivers for Sound Blaster 16 are updated,
  320.   WINSETUP.INF needs to be amended before WINSETUP.EXE can function properly.
  321.   The following changes must be made in WINSETUP.INF before proceeding to run
  322.   WINSETUP.EXE in Windows :
